Lately I’ve been listening a lot of “Best of 2008” mixes. What’s been a very positive surprise, is that they contain many many tracks of which I haven’t heard anything during 2008.
If several DJs rate dozens of unknown tracks (unknown to me, at least) as their Best of 2008, what does it tell?
Rather than getting depressed of not listening enough music or finding those tracks in time, I’m feeling excited. Today it’s easier than ever to play your unique sound, find tracks of which nobody has ever heard and play them the whole year and still they are unique tracks for someone.
It also tells that there’s just SO much music to crawl into. Why would anyone still stick to tracks released only during the past two weeks or browse through Beatport’s TOP 10 sales charts? It just feels more meaningless than ever.
Is this how Long Tail affects DJing?

Jack moves to Redrum and kick-starts the spring season this Saturday with handful of frrresh Helsinki-based house jocks.
Jack is also part of Helsinki Techno City which combines the clubs of Mr.A, Lil’Tony, Eliot Ness and DJ Orkidea under one roof.

Mä oon yrittänyt olla alun hip-hop-vuosien jälkeen vähän avarakatseisempi eri tekniikoiden suhteen. Soitin aikanaan puritaanisesti ainoastaan 12-tuumaisia vinyyleitä, jotka oli painettu Amerikoissa, enkä mitään muuta. Mulle DJ-touhussa ei nykyisin ole väliä millä soitan, vaan mitä mä soitan.

Tiistain Tanssi-illan biisivieraana 28.10.2008 kuullaan Oulun uuden aallon DJ ja promoottori Gatewayta. Pohjoisessa useita klubiprojekteja luotsannut Gateway luo katsauksen Oulun ja Pohjois-Suomen klubimenoihin ja pyöräyttää biisivierasbiisinään hieman vanhempaa housempaa soundia.
Biisivieras Tiistain Tanssi-illassa joka toinen viikko. DJ Orionin tunnilla klo 21-22 esittäytyvät vieraat kuuluvat Suomen elektronisen musiikin artistien kärkikaartiin ja tuovat ohjelmaan oman musiikillisen antinsa esittelemällä valitsemansa biisin.
Tiistain Tanssi-illassa lisäksi Gabriel&Dresden / Dave Dresden -spesiaali. Pian Suomeen saapuva Dave Dresden valitsi Tiistain Tanssi-illan soittoon parhaat ja mielenkiintoisimmat kappaleensa huikealta tuotantouraltaan. I’m happy to announce that the new version of my website is now ready. It’s been over two years (equals nearly forever in internet :) since the website got its last major update and I’m very pleased with the new one. I’d also love to hear your comments – and if you find any bugs or things which don’t look good, please let me know.
Infected Mushroom hits Helsinki for the third time this Saturday. The party will be held at Suvilahden Voimala, which has also been the home of Flow Festival in the past years. The main act will be supported by quite a bunch of domestic DJs including Eliot Ness, Milla Lehto, Indigo, Casper and several more. I’ll be starting up the madness at the main floor with a laid-back prog/psy/technoish set, see you there!
