Miika Kuisma on Orion’s Podcast

By Blogs & Podcasts

As always, we’re happy to announce the next Guest-DJ on Orion’s podcast: Despite being extremely busy with launching the new Danceteria label and making various tracks and remixes, Miika Kuisma somehow still had time to put together a very nice 45min progressive trance guest mix for the podcast.

To get it, make sure you’re subscribed – the instructions are here. The mix will be casted at latest tomorrow evening. Stay tuned…

Misc. Misc. News

By In English

As the update of Misc website still takes a while, here are some nice news from theee HeadQuarters ;)

First of all, Misc Management will from now on be taking care of the bookings of David West – a warm welcome to the artist roster :) The guy is simply amazing on- and off-stage – I guess anyone who visited [reiv:] Season Ending last Friday could tell that. David also proved how flexible he is by flying to Finland to replace Jody Wisternoff (who cancelled) with a super short notice of less than four hours.

And then – the main man of Misc, Oded Peled is warming up Underworld on their gigs in Tallinn and Riga. A very nice possibility to promote his excellent upcoming Underwater label releases. And – in case you didn’t know – warm-up set for Underworld’s gig in Finland will be played by DJ Orkidea.

Flickr and geotagging

By Photos & Videos

Flickr finally started to support geotagging in an easy way. Also users seem to be quite happy about it – during the first 24 hours 1,234,384 photos were geotagged according to Flickr blog.

But (There’s always a “but”).

We’re not living in America and Flickr doesn’t use Google Maps but Yahoo Maps instead. This combination is not too good if you’re willing to geotag your photos manually to a certain street in Helsinki – or any other city in Finland. You just can’t zoom in, there’s no information available. Yahoo Maps is too far behind if you compare it to the Google Maps.

But still – despite the inaccuracy – it’s quite fascinating to browse through the photos on the map. Take a look:

Geotagged Flickr photos in Helsinki or in Oulu or how about southern New Zealand..

History of Flyers

Platinum Forums has a very nice collection of Finnish flyers online. Starting from 1993 and going all the way to the latest flyers, the collection offers an unique view to the visual culture around electronic music in Finland.

Pretty productive weekend

By DJ, In English, Music, Photos & Videos

A remix of Tilt’s “I Dream” got nearly finished last weekend. Here’s a short clip of what’s coming up next:

Snare Rush Collage.
Weird collage of clips and videos from the past…
You got to love this YouTube-quality… :P Here’s a link to a better quality mp4-file => download (38mb).

And finally a peek to the iTunes Music Folder.
Quite a nice way to present one’s musical taste in a visual way.

MyErrorSpace

By Entertainment

Kosmo had a good point while commenting the previous post, but how can you enjoy networking in a place where every third click brings you an “unexpected error”?

Luckily every single error “has been forwarded to MySpace’s technical group”. Or…? Luckily someone on Flickr seems to know ;)

Click!

Making friends is never too easy. What a perfect new slogan for MySpace.

MySpace weakness

By Entertainment, In English, Links

After criticizing MySpace big time, I decided to give a try (I’m so weak, I know…).

And after browsing through some profiles I still don’t get it: What’s the point of adding dozens of contacts to one’s friends list if you haven’t ever even met or talked to these people? Or is it just so cool of having 50 celebrities as your “friends”?

Well, let’s see where this ends up. I can’t help being skeptical.

TT13 web open

By In English

Time Tunnel 13 website is open. Too bad H.A.N.D boys didn’t make a video of last year’s great event which was held at amazing looking Uusi Seurahuone.
While waiting the Utah Saints music videos to appear to the official website, there’s always YouTube for the impatient ones :)

Orion joins Misc Management

By DJ, In English

BIO UPDATE
First of all, there are two updates of the website. Biography is again back up-to-date and a bit wider than the former version.

DOWNLOAD MIX
Then, Spinni 10 year anniversary mix is now available for downloading on the mixes site. It was podcasted already some time ago, but if you’re not into any casts, now is a good chance to download it. The mix includes music from artists like Junkie XL, Starecase, Hybrid, David Forbes, Transa etc. Full length mix with old and new tracks included.

ORION JOINS MISC MANAGEMENT
Orion joined Misc Management DJ booking agency earlier this week. Misc Management is the first truly professional, dance music oriented dj booking agency – management located in Helsinki, Finland. As well as being part of Misc’s Artist Roster, Orion also works as part of the Misc Management staff from now on. More news concerning the subject should be available pretty soon.

Fortune cookies

By Entertainment, In English, Photos & Videos, Travelling

This time the content of the fortune cookie really hit me. More bass? :)
The low tones are the most effective

I wonder why Siemens never brought this refrigerator type to Finland…
Sikafrost!

Not to mention this oven:
Persbusch!

Visiting Germany was once again very rewarding. Local record stores didn’t fail me – and so didn’t Bruce ;) Did you know that the Die Hard hero has released music on Motown? Neither did I.

Lust auf Sex

By Photos & Videos, Travelling

Voinko tuntea oloni kotoisaksi, kun saksalainen ZDF-kanava lähettää ensimmäisenä iltana suomalaista erotik-dramaa joka kotiin? Olo on lähinnä vaivautunut leffan tasosta johtuen, vaikka Jasper Pääkkösen fliessend Deutsch huvittaakin. Leffan saksalainen nimi on otsikon mukainen. Sensaatiohakuista?

The first news from Helsinki

By Blogs & Podcasts, Civilian life, In English, Music, Photos & Videos

The week has passed incredibly fast. It’s been all about moving, doing the infamous vinyylijumppa to the second floor without any elevator and piecing together new furniture.

I guess carrying the music collection around was some sort of a last temptation to forget the vinyl, convert everything to CD-format and save your back from breaking before your 30th anniversary. I’m sure there was someone whispering to my ear “How much would that weight in mp3-format…?” when I climbed up the stairs with the 40kg vinyl cases.

Now after four full moving days quite much everything is done and we’ll be heading to Germany for nine days on Monday. I managed to finish most of the stuff on my todo-list despite the hurry:

First of all, after building up the new DJ-setup (which must be the best I’ve ever had what comes to sound and comfort) I recorded Spinni’s 10 Year Anniversary Mix. Spinni celebrates their ten year old way through the Tampere club history (more info here) and this “official” mix more or less describes the sound of the event’s second day. Techy progressive, breaks and trance in spirit of the oldskool, with a couple of fresh exceptions. Those who are subscribed to the podcast should get the mix any time soon, but you’ll find the link on the forums and Spinni’s website a bit later, too.

I visited Danceteria, DTM last night. Good way to get the first touch to Helsinki clubland – the place was crowded and atmosphere high. I shot restlessly a couple of photos while meeting new people and I have to say I felt pretty welcome – there were really nice people around.

Wait

The future looks bright. In October I’ll be heading to Northern Ireland for a week and before that I’ll hope to have some announcements to be made about some club and music related things. Oh, and nearly forgot – New York City based fitness radio station Exercise Radio starts to air some mixes of mine on their exercise related shows. It seems that vinyylijumppa isn’t the only way to get fit with vinyls ;)

And as a postscript: It’s never too late to start to love music. Or too early…
Heavy music has young fans...
