Elokuun ensimmäisessä Tiistain Tanssi-illassa 05.08.2008 biisivieraana seinäjokelainen Syna ja Deck Jagger -aliaksilla esiintyvä kolmikko. Syna on kerännyt huomiota Orkidean Streching Time remixillä ja Deck Jagger puolestaan nousi klubbaajien huulille Megaforce-hitin myötä. Tanssi-illan biisivieraskappale tulee Deck Jagger -aliaksen alta ja samalla kuullaan trion viimeisimmät kesäkuulumiset.

Biisivieras Tiistain Tanssi-illassa joka toinen viikko. DJ Orionin tunnilla klo 21-22 esittäytyvät vieraat kuuluvat Suomen elektronisen musiikin artistien kärkikaartiin ja tuovat ohjelmaan oman musiikillisen antinsa esittelemällä valitsemansa biisin.

Tiistain Tanssi-illassa lisäksi lupaava britti-tulokas Fletch, suomalaisen Beetseekersin versiointi Morgan Pagen The Longest Roadista, uutta musiikkia Jody Wisternoffilta, Flash Brothersilta ja Super8&Tabilta.

Tracklist: I Love Kiksu 4th anniversary event

I Love Kiksu was a very well organized and successful trance event – there aren’t too many of those these days. I was surprised how early the dance floor got crowded – I was expecting people to stay home longer after such a warm day, but it seems you can always trust trance fans ;)
Jokke started the night with 100% vinyl set, plenty of great oldish tracks and fresh releases. A great warmup from the guy who has been keeping the scene warm for god-knows-how-many years. It was great to get to play after him. After a couple of trys with pretty new tunes I decided to count on tracks with were a bit more familiar. Not surprisingly, a bit more technoish tracks like Boogie Nights and Surin remix didn’t go down too well, but I was happy of the reaction to the proggy and even houseish tracks like Mystify remix and Sweet Harmony re-make. It’s good to see that you don’t need 145bpm energy trance anymore in a trance event to push the spirit high and get the hands in the air. 127bpm and well fitting bassline will do just fine (Jaytech/Dinka, anyone? ;). DJ DNA finished the night well with his stage charisma and driving two hour trance set in a true I Love Kiksu stylé :)

Jaytech to Finland!

Australian Jaytech is coming to Finland this autumn.

If I would need to mention my TOP3 nu-sound producers today, the list would definitely contain Jaytech. The young Australian wizard has just released his amazing debut album “Everything is OK” and has been named as Above&Beyond’s favourite warm-up DJ on their tours. His new tracks like Pepe’s Garden and Groove Nova and older like Genesis and Tomorrow as well as the joint productions with Matt Rowan are such a bliss to hear and play. His sound influences today’s progressive house and trance strongly (check his podcast) and I can guess this is just the start, according to his Inthemix interview.

Jaytech is currently touring all around the world and finally landing to Finland this October. It’s a moment not-to-miss.

DJ Orion – One Sunday

One Sunday is the first chill-out production I’ve done. It’s a moody, melancholic piano-driven chill-out track to which I already (and shortly) referred earlier on the Konemetsä video post. However, the track wouldn’t have been anything like this without help from Joonas and Miika.

My brother Joonas is a music freak just like me, but his talents are on a jazz and choir leading side. He’s only 18 years old than me and has achieved already much more on his music career than many pros who have been 10 years more in the business. Joonas is responsible of all the keyboard magic of the track and I’m very very much looking forward to the future sessions with him.

The final polish + bass and piano sound tweaking props go to Miika Kuisma, whose uncompromised producer skills were irreplaceable. Thank you for your time, honesty, humbleness and all the good tips and tricks.

As said, the original version is now finished and it’s time for the remixes. I’m very happy to announce the remix kvintet, which includes some of today’s most promising and most interesting Finnish producers (not in any particular order): Syna/Deck Jagger, Sami Saari, Cid Inc from Mashtronic duo, Beetseekers and Miika Kuisma. I’m really looking forward to dance floor orientated and hooky remixes from the guys and I’m very very excited of the results. A large variety of Finnish electronic music at its best, so to say.

DJ Kaasi Tiistain Tanssi-illan biisivieraana

Tiistain Tanssi-illassa 22.7.2008 biisivieraana Pohjois-Suomen kiistämätön ykkös-DJ Kaasi. Kalajoella menestyksekästä Sunburn-klubia pyörittävä miekkonen on tuonut pikkupaikkakunnan klubbaajien huulille ja Kalajoen Dyynistä puhutaan nykyisin jo Suomen Ibizana. Tanssi-illan Biisivieras-osuudessa selviää mitä kuuluu DJ Kaasin tähän kesään, pohjoisen klubikuvioihin ja keikkarintamalle ja kuulumisten lisäksi kuullaan herran valitsema biisi, joka on kirjaimellisesti varsinainen pommi.

Konemetsä ja huumeet

Konemetsä-festivaalin jälkeinen uutisointi ei varmaan mennyt ohi keneltäkään. Ainakin Helsingin Sanomat, Ilta-Sanomat, MTV3, Kainuun Sanomat uutisoivat tapahtuman jälkeen yli sadan jääneen kiinni huumeiden hallussapidosta. Hieman myöhemmin Yle uutisoi lisäksi Konemetsän tulevaisuuden olevan uhattuna huumerikosten vuoksi.

Kaikkien ronskeimmin tapahtuneesta uutisoi Aamulehti, jonka lööppi on karua katsottavaa. Alkuperäistä uutista ei lehden verkkosivuilta enää löydy, mutta verkkolehden otsikko “Metsäbileissä pöllysi muukin kuin multa” kertonee riittävästi.

Päivää myöhemmin järjestäjän ja Loimaan poliisin tiedottamisen tuloksena otsikot muuttuivat kautta linjan muotoon “Poliisi: Konemetsä ei ole vaarassa”. Alkuperäinen uutinen on poistettu monista uutispalveluista. Aamulehti muisti edelleen muistuttaa, että vaikkei festaria nyt saatu lopetettua, niin paloturvallisuudessa olisi petrattavaa.

Konemetsän promoottorit ovat tekemässä tutkintapyyntöä edellämainitusta lööpistä. Haastattelen huomenna puhelimitse tapahtuman toista pääjärjestäjää, Pete Gerkmania. Haastattelu kuullaan kokonaisuudessaan ensi Tiistain Tanssi-illassa YleX:llä 22.07 klo 21:00.

Etukäteen Konemetsän innovatiivisista ideoista puhuttiin erittäin positiiviseen sävyyn (Markkinointi ja mainonta: Konemetsä luottaa puskaradioon), mutta jälkikäteen esimerkiksi erittäin onnistunut jätehuolto on jäänyt muiden uutisten varjoon.
Alueen siisteydestä kertoo paljon tarina, jonka kuulin festivaalin aikana. Tämän mukaan telttaalueena käytetty pelto täytyy luovuttaa täysin roskattomana. Koska festarin jälkeen pellolla on hevosia, voi yksikin pullonkorkki tulla eläinten omistajalle (tai festarin järjestäjälle) kalliiksi. En halua tietää millaista on perata mutainen pelto pullonkorkeista, mutta positiivista on, että yleisö on kantanut esimerkillisesti kortensa ja korkkinsa kekoon.

Next weekend: Oulu & Kalajoki

Visit to North of Finland is always one of the highlights of every summer. I’m doing two gigs there with my good friend DJ Kaasi, friday in Oulu and saturday in Kalajoki.

In Oulu we’ll enter the renovated club HTC, one of the most active electronic music venues in the city. The best place to get more details must be the Facebook event site which also provides a couple of mixes, photos and videos. The last visit to HTC while visiting Club Therapy last November proved the place to be totally rocking, luckily I had the tracklist and some memories still online.

The legendary Dyyni in Kalajoki will host the Saturday’s event. It’s already the fifth Sunburn event for this summer and the videos and photos from the previous nights have been stunning. I’m really looking forward to this year’s visit – it really feels Sunburn has gotten better every year. Konemetsä look-back

Konemetsä 2008

I survived Konemetsä. Barely. Due to problems with the voice blog, you missed some hilarious moments recorded live, but I try to share the muddy moments by writing.
Konemetsä is a yearly open air festival located in Marttila, Finland. It’s basically in the middle of nothing, nearly a two hour drive from Helsinki and somewhat less from Turku. Getting there was a small logistic challenge and I ended up getting an official artist ride 11 hours before my set.

To make a long story short: I joined picking up from airport an Australian/Indian/English guy, who said Russians are godless, was amazed by GMS’ & Astrix’s excellent psy-trance and the setup of the Konemetsä main stage, got totally wet in the heavy rain during the morning hours, witnessed festival area turning muddy, slept three hours in a random caravan next to two very drunk Swedish guys, woke up to the middle of cocaine snorting merry-go-round, got very muddy and finally played a three hour morning set to the waking festival audience in the Konemetsä chill-out tent. It was the best chill-out gig experience so far for me – perfect weather, the first rays of sun, people getting out from their sleeping bags, eating breakfast and just being comfortable. An uncompromisingly good mood was in the air.
The festival producers Pete & Pete were incredibly nice, feet on the ground, ready to help and very professional guys. It was a pleasure spending some time together. Big thanks also to our driver for a good company and loads of fun all the way from Helsinki to Marttila.

The first 1,5h of my From Rural To Urban themed set the sound was more acoustic related, easier campfire chill-out and grew bigger little by little as the people woke up. The last hour was more urban – more beats, long pads and a bit more complex electronic touch. For a better view, see the full tracklist below:
