If you’re living in Andorra or Spain, tune your radio to Proxima.fm station on Saturday 10.6. at 01AM local time. The station will air one of my mixes for the South European music freaks. Tune in.
Missing bootleg remix got finished last night. The result is a 8min long rolling and growling breakbeat tune.
Got some priceless help from my friends – big thank-yous to my brother Joonas for the midi-madness and to Jussi for the Bass. And not to forget you who listened and evaluated the preview-versions – thanks for the patience :)
Everything But The Girl – Missing (Orion’s Lost & Found remix) (17mb mp3)

First of all – those who know what RSS-feed is, please update your feed readers. The new feed address for this blog is http://feeds.feedburner.com/OrionBlog
Now – I have to admit that I’m pretty excited. Even though RSS-feeds are getting easier and easier to use, I still feel that too many users don’t have any clue what they are and how to subscribe to them. Now finally it seems we have an easy-to-use and even-easier-to-understand solution here.
As you might know, in addition to running this blog, I’m also hosting my own podcast and co-hosting Worldwide Mix Selections podcast. Now – there are three boxes below. If you want to get the content of these nice blogs and casts right to your email immediately when they are updated, just enter your email address to the corresponding box. It doesn’t get easier than this. After you’ve written your mail address there, you’ll start to get mail as often this blog or the podcasts are updated. And don’t worry – this won’t end up being spam or anything: you have a possibility to cancel the subscribtion anytime just by clicking the link which is in the end of each mail. Be brave and give a try! And feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Jos RSS-feedit ovat tuttua kauraa, ole hyvä ja päivitä tämän blogin feed ajan tasalle. Uusi osoite on: http://feeds.feedburner.com/OrionBlog
No, viimein moiseen näyttäisi olevan kohtuullisen yksinkertainen ratkaisu:
Yläpuolella näkyy kolme laatikkoa, joista jokainen edustaa yhtä ylläpitämääni palvelua: tätä blogia, DJ-podcastiani ja yhdessä ystävieni kanssa pyöritettävää Worldwide Mix Selections -podcastia. Kirjoittamalla palvelua vastaavaan laatikkoon sähköpostiosoitteesi alat saada kyseisen blogin tai castin tuoreimmat jutut sähköpostiisi automaattisesti. Mailiin putoavat siis viimeisimmät kirjoitukset tästä blogista tai linkit tuoreimpiin podcast-miksauksiin ja raitoihin, välittömästi niiden ilmestyttyä blogiin. Helppoa.
Friday night was dedicated to easy house music. I was invited to a local club Helmi to play the last set. Helmi’s target group are more mainstream chart lovers than electronic music freaks so I ended up leaving my TOP20 records at home and chose something totally different. Before my slot, DJ Hesher played quality breaks, funk and disco spiced with määäd scratching and really had the dancefloor under control. When starting, I have to admit, I wasn’t the most confident person on that club but the end of the night ended up to be really enjoyable and refreshing. No matter what they say about street credibility, but it really makes you see DJing from a new point of view when you’re playing something completely different every once in a while.

Saturday in Oulu was more an ordinary club night. I warmed up Magellan Project/Alt-F4/Avanto -boys on a local Illumination club. Even though quality electronic music nights are getting more and more famous in (Northern) Finland, the nature of Finns still stays the same – a suddenly crazy going bar tells that heavy metal band Lordi winning the Eurovision Song Contest is definitely more interesting than a new remix of Union Jack’s Two Full Moons And A Trout ;)
Another enjoyable night – these houseprogressive gems tend to work well in Oulu, time after time.

Lately there has been some sort of a mania of doing oldskool trance mixes. Several DJs have browsed through their oldest records (or bought the backcatalogue as MP3s – who knows these days anymore…) and selected tracks which suit to their image of oldskool. The result is a lot of excellent music, different styles and good memories.
pHaze – …For old times sake

Aki A. – Lonely Traveller
Gateway – My Tranceclassics
Timmo – Ransu

UDG serves you well. After one wheel of my UDG Trolley Bag broke, I contacted UDG Customer Service. After sending the receipt, a couple of photos and an explanation, the Customer Service contacted me with a really nice email and promised to send a full repair kit.
This is what I got today. Spare parts more than I needed and indeed a FULL repair kit. The only thing which seems to be missing, is the manual for those (read: “me”) who don’t have a clue how to remove the broken parts and replace them with those above.
A new two-part mix named Agave is ready.
Agave is a plant, also known as Century Plant. Its common name derives from its habit of only occasionally flowering, but when it does, the spike with a cyme of big yellow flowers, may reach up to 8 meters in height. The plant dies after flowering.
Blossom once, then die – fascinating.
Now what does this plant have to do with this mix? You don’t have to be too smart to figure that out ;)
Brand new progressive trance, classic trance tracks, breaks and hypnotic drives. Holden, Way Out West, Shiloh, Max Graham, Andy Moor, Hybrid etc etc…
Download Agave (99mb).
Did you like this mix? Agave has also part 2 – Agave (postlude), available only via Orion’s podcast. To get that as well, go and subscribe to podcast.
Oh, and comments are always welcome (I like communicating with you people;). Use the comment option below – or if you feel like sending a private message, use the shoutbox on the main site and choose “private” when writing. Or just write traditional email :)
Here are the parts 2 and 3 for the “Jeff Mills: : The Exhibitionist Mix” that I introduced yesterday.
And if techno doesn’t interest you too much, go and take a look at the brand new chill-out track on Softys site.
JEFF MILLS: The Exhibitionist Mix (part 1/3)(2004)
“I can never remember such a piece of work ever existing where a techno DJ was captured on film in a very graphic way so we could see exactly how he’s mixing and piecing records together to create a very streamlined soundtrack. I thought this would expand the ideas that are conveyed through DJ mixing to people who are not aware of what a DJ really does – and what is the difference, between say a hip hop DJ, or a techno DJ… Just simply focusing on the creative motion of a DJ would allow more people to become interested in the art form. I thought starting with what a DJ does is the best way.”
– Jeff Mills
I can’t remember when Rovaniemi would have sunbathed in 29C in the beginning of May (06.05.2006). Must have been one of the warmest cities in Finland today.
Here are some photos from Reclaim the Streets party in Rovaniemi, too.

At the moment Worldwide Mix Selections -podcast serves a nice ’99-’01 trance mix by DJ Thomas. The mix is already 4-5 years old, but it hasn’t lost a bit of that original feeling. Not so usual for trance mixes these days, huh?
After casting LOTS of house music, WMS is now concentrating on other genres for a while. There are SO many good progressive, drum’n bass, techno, trance and chill-out etc.etc.etc mixes around, it’s just a matter of finding (and podcasting) them. Suggestions for new mixes are always welcome.
After two nice guest mixes from Loopy and San Mejor (thanks, guys!) DJ Orion’s podcast casts now Dead End, the latest mix of the author himself. Expect new stuff appearing shortly, one 30min mix and one full-lenght trancey mix coming up.
If you clicked those links, you might have noticed that the podcast section has now been improved. The subscribing should be now easier than ever. But just in case, here are the direct links to iTunes:

Neil Young shares his full lenght album on his website and criticizes the politics of USA and the war in Iraq.
I bet this album wouldn’t have gotten this much publicity if it would have been released in a traditional way. No matter if mr. Young wanted it or not, the ways he shares his opinions are not only pointing the absurdity of the war but also the possibilities which our super-modern-and-highly-efficient music industry is lacking.
Rock the free world! …or free the rock world?
The Butt Ugly Weblog writes about DRM opinions in Finland.
However, my attention was caught by another line in the article. Take a look at this:
“If hard drive space continues to grow at the current rate, by 2025 the entire music ever recorded in the entire world will fit on your iPod.”
Now how cool is that?
Orion’s podcast climbed up to the place 9 on the Top Subscribed Podcasts of iTunes. Thanks to all the listeners :)
Oh, and the flag bearer of Finnish progressive trance, DJ Loopy from Tampere just opened his blog.
San Mejor from the arctic city of Rovaniemi makes a nicee guest mix for Orion’s podcast. Even mr. Mejor is more into soulful, vocal and groovy house, this time he drops well selected gems of progressive breaks. How about that :) iTunes users can subscribe and listen by just clicking here, others can copypaste this feed address: http://feeds.feedburner.com/Orionpodcast
FED organization from Oulu visited Rovaniemi last Saturday and brought in some excellent house music in the shape of Mr.A. Mr.A’s set and Gateway’s warmup are both downloadable below. Enjoy :)

Orion’s new mix Dead End is online and downloadable. When choosing the tracks for Dead End, the idea was to re-create the sound and the feeling which I had playing the opening set in Doris last October. That night I somehow ended up leaving all the records home which represent my usual style and chose only records which I’ve never played live. The result was astonishing – people went crazy with 120bpm weird techno, electro and acid tracks, which I never thought to be that good. Here’s the remake of that night’s set, enjoy (if you can) :)
