Chooned + afterparty in Turku

This Saturday Chooned event hits Messukeskus, Turku. The event is among the biggest electronic music events organized in Turku area in years and with 16 Bit Lolitas, Sean Tyas and Agnelli & Nelson headlining it’s definitely one of the most interesting. Sound-wise the event looks very strong and I’m looking forward to hear 16 Bit Lolitas live. Their sound has evolved to more technoish direction which – in my opinion – hasn’t been only a good thing, but I’m sure also the new less uplifting tunes will be strong enough from a big PA system.

The main event starts already at 19:00 and goes on until 03. The Finnish lineup includes local Choon club resident Jussi Soro and promoter Nenna and my YleX colleague OlliS.

At 03:00 the party has a short break (thanks to Finnish legislation) and continues at 05:00 sharp in the centrum of Turku at Klubi. The afterparty is organized by LCS possé, who have been lately travelling around Finland with their club concept and several foreign prog talents.

I’ll be starting the afterparty with 1,5h set of trancey tunes and local heroes Homegrove, Progression, Ali King, Mick Elsa and DJ Seb will follow.

Looking very, very much forward to another Turku excursion.

Spotify – too good to be true?

Due to deals with major labels, Spotify (of which I wrote earlier) had to restrict access to some of the music in their service. Spotify has been the first program to replace iTunes completely on my daily use. Listening to new music has never been easier – and it seems that labels tend to think it’s way too easy.

From Spotify blog:

“These restrictions are a legacy from when most music was sold on tapes and CDs and they have continued over into streaming music, our hope is that one day restrictions like this will disappear for good.”

Interview: The Roots of Techno

Wired Magazine published an article about the Roots of Techno and interviewed – who else than – Juan Atkins.

“I think “techno” is a term to describe and introduce all kinds of electronic music. In fact, there were a lot of electronic musicians around when Cybotron started, andI think maybe half of them referred to their music as “techno.” However, the public really wasn’t ready for it until about ’85 or ’86. It just so happened that Detroit was there when people really got into it. “

Luomo article

Good article about Luomo, with stuff of which I had no clue. For example this:

Visiting Teosto

I’ll be visiting Teosto (Finnish equivalent to RIAA, roughly speaking) next Monday morning. Me and Miika Kuisma were invited to talk about the possible changes to their DJ licensing policy and to update their knowledge of today’s electronic music culture. Excited? Yes.

I’ve gone through loads to critical posts I’ve written in the past, polished arguments and written stuff down. Still, I’m very very open to all the comments or greetings all you electronic music lovers have. Feel free to drop any thoughts to the comment box below.

Tänä tiistaina YleX:n Tiistain Tanssi-illan biisivieraana on Turun Chooned-tapahtumaan 14.2. saapuva brittiduo Agnelli & Nelson. Jo yli 12 vuoden ajan tranceskenessä vaikuttanut pohjois-irlantilainen kaksikko kertoo kuulumiset ahkeran keikkailun keskeltä ja pyöräyttää kappaleen verran omaa trademark-soundiaan.

Agnelli & Nelson starttaa Tanssi-illan ulkomaalaisten biisivieraiden sarjan. Ulkomaiset DJ:t tarttuvat Tanssi-illan mikkiin vielä neljästi kevään ja tulevan kesän aikana.

Viva La Vida remixed.

Greetings from Tampere. It’s Saturday evening and I just got back from the Hatanpää studios. After a long day, Flight & Jontey and I got a remix of Coldplay’s Viva La Vida pretty finished (see the video below for the original).

It still needs some polishing and tweaking, but I’m super excited of the result. It’s a prog-housey, groovy eight-minute tune with three breakdowns, three different basslines and a fresh structure combining several layers of strings with vocals of Chris Martin.

I’ll post a clip or two to this blog soonish. Viva La Vida!
