This Friday sees one of the most interesting club concepts in Helsinki in a while. Mysterious UU Theory brand puts up a party in Uunisaari, lightens up the whole island, throws in a full scale fireworks show and gathers together a club full of music enthusiasts.
The lineup includes me, Heikki L, Something Good boys and Tim & Tom. In case you missed it, the event also had a different but very fresh trailer and UU guys joined Heikki L and me in the studio and asked us to deliver a track for the night, which will see a full scale premiere at the club.
It’s Taiteiden Yö on Friday so in case you’re around, come join the fun. As I’m writing this, there should be still some tickets available. And for those of you looking for free-of-charge fun, the fireworks craziness starts at 22:00 and will be fully visible next to Uunisaari on Kaivopuisto side.

MONDAY-TUESDAY 2.8.-3.8.2010 – STUDIO DAYS W/ HEIKKI L
I bet it can’t get too easily as busy and exotic as this week is going to be. We started on Monday a two-day studio session with Heikki L, doing a cover/remake of an oldskool rave classic “Bizarre Inc – Playing With Knives” (video behind the link & embedded below). Feeling the early 90’s vibe? In addition to updating the rave piano riff to 2010, we also learned those dance moves, dressed up like MC Hammer and watched all seasons of Melrose Place.
WEDNESDAY 4.8.2010 – PLAYING AT 10000 PEOPLE SCOUT CAMP / JAMBOREE
On Wednesday, 4.8, I’ll head to the woods of Hämeenlinna where over 10000 boy- and girlscouts are having the biggest scout camp in Finland. The camp ends on Thursday and on Wednesday night there’s a biiig party where I was invited. In addition to me, Jangler from Ylivieska.org will take care of the breaks and beats. This must be among the most exotic gig experiences and I’m really excited to get there to enjoy the camp atmosphere and rave with the mosquitoes. The exotic vibe continues on Thursday @ Helsinki’s Hartwall Areena. There’s an annual Assembly demo party, a demoscene and gaming event (see wikipedia), which gathers around 5000 attendees every year. I’ve never been in the middle of 5000 people madly excited about computers – which sounds like a crazy amount of glowing screens and endless sound of tapping keyboards. Where’s the survival guide?
For those needing a well earned break after sitting the whole day at their computers, there’s a three day rave party starting on Thursday at midnight. I’ll be starting the event full-on right after midnight, warming up the floor for DJ Proteus, who never needs any kind of a warm up ;) Thanks to Pasi @ Sequence for the invitation, let’s rave until the blue screen appears! FRIDAY 6.8.2010 – BASS ATTACK @ VAAKUNA, MIKKELI
On Friday I’ll head to Mikkeli, which itself is exotic enough to fit to this week’s theme. The nice possé from Guru entertainment have been organizing a summer club @ Vaakuna and I’ll be headlining on Friday with a proper 2,5h set. The event will be held at Vaakuna, Facebook event is here. It’s actually my first visit to Mikkeli ever, looking forward to see the city and the nightlife. Come drop by if you’re around.
The travel continues on Saturday to Vaasa to finalize the exotic week with some über-exoticness. Fiksaatio possé have been doing some great parties during the past years, not only in Seinäjoki, but also in nearby cities and pulled some well earned attention towards them. Now, to end a memorably hot summer in Finland, Fiksaatio organizes a massive party “Fantasia” in a local spa/waterpark Tropiclandia with 15 top-class DJs and live acts (Alex Kunnari, Joonas Hahmo, Flight, Syna, OlliS, Ville Lope, Sami Saari…), 32C heat and a vibe to remember. Needless to say, the event is definitely something unique in the area and definitely worth checking, I’m really happy to have a possibility to be part of it. Kotimainen soundi on ollut jo pitkään kovassa huudossa maailmalla ja uusia house-, proge- ja trance-tyylisuuntien edustajia nousee jatkuvasti pinnalle. Näiden nousevien nimien lisäksi käydään läpi tulevia julkaisuja Suomen pitkän linjan artisteilta ja tuottajilta. Kotimaan katsauksessa kuullaan vielä julkaisematonta ja uutta musiikkia artisteilta kuten Super8&Tab, Heikki L, K-System, Joonas Hahmo, Flight, Anton Sonin, Sergei Shkuroff, Something Good, Timo Juuti, Tom Fall, Yotto…
DJ-ohjelmassa jatkuu myös Kuukauden Klubikaupunki -sarja, jossa maanantaina tarkastellaan Suomen Chicagon tämänhetkistä tilaa. Lahden elektronisen musiikin tuoreimpia skenekuulumisia ja historiaa esittelee pitkän linja DJ- ja promoottori Tomi Putto alias DJ Bates.
“Tampere-fiilis” was a late 90’s phenomena in Tampere, purely born in local trance events when melodic trance was at its peak and rave culture enjoyed high popularity. I remember events like Taika ’98 in which people were dancing spontaniously hand-in-hand, club Tunnel with Coma and 3.14Sami spinning in an old, small rock club to 200+ clubbers every second Thursday, everybody going mental. I hope I haven’t become cynical when claiming that nearly a decade has passed in Tampere without any similar feeling of regular PLUR ;)
ONE has succeeded in something that felt like an impossible task a couple of years ago. It seemed that you couldn’t attract any audience without bringing bigger and bigger foreign acts even though it was just the fun and good atmosphere people were after. Saturday night at Tanssitalo, with hundreds and hundreds of people going insane and a lineup consisting of only former and current Tampere talents proved that you don’t need any foreign acts to get loose. Just a club full of your best friends and a long lost Tampere-fiilis :)
After a night like that, I can’t wait to get back to Tanssitalo. See you at the next One, on 30.5.2009.
