Tracklist: Orion & J.Shore live @ Whiteout 2011

By UncategorizedNo Comments

I can’t believe it’s been 12 years I walked to Cable Factory to my first Labyrinth event. If someone would have told me I’d once open one of these events doing my first Live PA with my brother J.Shore (who was by then only 9 years old), I probably would’ve found it hard to believe.

Nevertheless, after working with the tracks regular hours week after week since last October, we finished the final touches to the live show and our upcoming album only 1,5 weeks before Whiteout 2011. We are hoping the album to see the light of the day rather soon.

Massive thanks to Whiteout possé and special shouts to Efo for superb stage managing – not to forget each one of you arriving early to join the chill-out startup. Thank You!

Here’s the tracklist of the Whiteout 2011 opening.

Labyrinth // Laserpoint // Whiteout this weekend

By UncategorizedNo Comments

The second of the most awaited annual events is again at hand. This year’s Labyrinth // Laserpoint will be bringing the largest arsenal of different lasers to Finland so far, and gather up a show which is the biggest in Northern Europe. Held in a very legendary venue, Cable Factory in Helsinki, the show combines the raw industrial environment to the latest top-notch club technology.

I’ll be playing this year a set at the main stage together with my good friend DJ Flight just before Way Out West takes over. As last year, our sound will be a combination of trancey and house tracks – not to forget a small hint of techno. To reveal a bit more, Laserpoint possé asked us a few questions – the interview is pasted below (the original is here).

And yeah, I’ll be giving out one free ticket to the event via my podcast. If you’re interested, subscribe on iTunes and download+listen the latest episode (#111), you’ll know what to do then.

Labyrinth // Laserpoint // Whiteout – Interview 3/6 – Orion & Flight

01. Orion & Flight – What kind of memories do you have of Kaapelitehdas, the venue where Labyrinth // Laserpoint is being held?

Orion:
Last year’s gig at the main stage was exactly 10 years after I visited Labyrinth for the first time and was blown away by the Kaapelitehdas vibe. Even though it took ten years, I think it’s a great proof that if you push hard enough, you can make anything happen.

Flight:
When I came into this scene not even 4 years ago I could never even imagine all this to happen so fast. 2007 warmup slot at the Laserpoint side stage, then 2009 & 2010 the main stage. I’m so grateful to all those guys behind Labyrinth // Laserpoint events who have been supporting me from the very beginning.

02. You both have been playing in numerous club cities already this year. What are the most enjoyable features of touring Finland?

Orion:
I think we have a privilege in Finland to have so professional and self-demanding promoters who’re making great events no matter where you go. Also – meeting great new people on and off the dancefloor and getting down at the afterparty with the locals – nothing beats a weekend like that.

Flight:
I love those road trips, so nice to chat, meet and have fun with new friends. Laidback guys & chicks from south to north and from east to west. No matter where you go there is always someone who loves electronic music, wants to party and appears beautiful ;)

03. We all remember that Coldplay bootleg and all the re-edits from the 2009 event. What’s currently boiling in the studio?

Orion:
We’ve done together over a dozen new re-edits during the past months and we’ll be selecting the best ones for this year’s Labyrinth // Laserpoint.
On my solo side I’ve done lots of chill-out tracks with my brother J.Shore and just signed a contract with Silk Sofa which should result some new releases still this year.
Regarding Coldplay-bootleg – it was great to see ATB exclusively supporting the tune – he’s still playing it. That bootleg can now be downloaded for free here: http://bit.ly/vivalavida-bootleg

Flight:
Besides the re-edits we’ve made a new bootleg with legendary K-System – Smashing Pumpkins ‘Tonight, Tonight’ – the debut play will be at the Cable Factory. Rumored ‘Amor De La Discoteca’ is a slammin house track by my mate Heikki L and me, our first but surely not the last tune together. And of course the Tampere duo is doing some dancefloor damage: Latest Flight & Jontey track ‘Every Night’ got surprisingly wide support and was just released on Avenue recordings. There are some other collab plans but those results you will explore later this year.

04. Tell us one irritating and one admirable thing about the other?

Flight:
Orion has sometimes a mode known as hyperactive workaholic, but with a right attitude it has good impact for a lazy guy like me. Generally speaking, he’s an earthy and trustworthy character who inspires and encourages the crowd around him. Finest fella I have met via techno.

Orion:
After a gig, I hate early wake-up-calls with Flight. Merely because he doesn’t wake up. There’s no way of getting him out of the bed. But on the other hand – he’s super reliable and fascinatingly talented house DJ who has a great ear for groove. And not to forget – a very good friend.

05. What’s the wildest rumour going around of you two?

Flight:
Yes, it’s definitely about when we met. The worst thing is it’s all true. I was drunk and in a gay bar…

Orion:
… yes, an epic start, indeed. Tampere, gay bar and back in 2006. Good things don’t often start that obviously :)

BT watching 8,000 people in Finland dance.

BT on Wired Magazine.

“I watched about 8,000 people in Finland dance to this piece of music,” BT said during the 30-minute interview. “And when it began to convolve from 4/4 to 6/8, I thought, ‘OK, here’s the moment where a wormhole eats the room or I wish that the floor would split in half and swallow me whole,’ but people understood intuitively how to move their bodies to it! It was so exciting for me to watch!”

I didn’t see 8,000 people there, but maybe that’s the American way to tell that story ;) I was exciting to watch, nevertheless. If you’re interested to hear more, here’s the full interview we recorded nearly one year ago when BT was planning the release of These Hopeful Machines.

Labyrinth // Laserpoint 2009 vibes

Labyrinth//Laserpoint 2009

How the time flies… it’s nearly two weeks of this year’s Laserpoint event and I haven’t found a moment to gather all my thoughts. Actually, it’s not only two weeks but a whole year which has passed incredibly fast. One year ago we were equally busy with DJ Orkidea’s Metaverse tour which had its closing moments at Laserpoint 2008.

This year I got a privilege to get into a short chat with Brian Transeau two weeks before the event. Arranging an official interview was a small mess with all the hassle with time differences, phone calls and emails with several managers but I’m happy it finally turned out to be a success and BT’s interview was aired on 14.4.2009 on YleX.
I’m not starting to tell what a great guy he truly is, you can check it out by yourself, the whole interview is listenable here, also including some parts which didn’t fit to the radio show.

The main event was fantastically organized. 3500 people under one roof, but everything from cloackrooms to bars ran smoothly, the lights & visuals were once again superb (thanks for the support, Parker Kane! :), people happily
Labyrinth, 1999, Helsinki, ulkopuolismiling and atmosphere better than ever. Personally I was happy to see Labyrinth returning – it’s mad that it’s already 10 years ago when Labyrinth met Gatecrasher at the same spot. At that time Merikaapeli hall was the mecca of swedish influenced techno and the main trance stars Matt Hardwick and Scott Bond were playing at Puristamo, which was so packed & hot that one could feel the sweat dripping from the ceiling. Talk about hip and trendy raving! ;)

I joined Flight at the main stage to play before Alex Kunnari, the main act BT and Orkidea. We had been preparing re-edits, mash-ups and especially the remix Coldplay’s Viva La Vida for a couple of months before the gig and personally I was thrilled to see the crowd going mental of Sami Saari’s remix of One Sunday and Chase the Sun/Where Are You Now -combo. If you’re into it, see the full tracklist. The video edit of Viva La Vida ended up also on the Labyrinth // Laserpoint 2009 official video .

Sessions2 also made fantastic work and I was happy to find other official photo galleries, too. All the event galleries are gathered together here, take a look if you’re into seeing a couple of photos.

The night ended to the Illusions afterparty where I played a two hour opening set between 05:00 and 07:00. It was nice to see a fully packed morning party, weird to play happy and melodic music at Rose Garden main floor (normally a very techno influenced place), and again thrilling to see people going wild when the sun was already up. The re-play of AfterFlight, a combo of Prydz’s Aftermath and Tiesto’s Flight 643 was a blast and Dan Stone’s remake of Paul van Dyk’s For An Angel as well as Above&Beyond’s remix of Radiohead’s Reckoner were memorable moments.

Thanks for the all the great people I met during the night and morning, it was amazing to share all those moments with you. Big thanks to Joonas, Lauri, Flight, Orkidea, Jontey, Tumpsi, Parker and Juki who were there when needed and made this all happen. You are the lucky ones.

Now, let’s turn the heads towards the sunny summer and let the good times roll :)

The track on video: Coldplay – Viva La Vida (Flight & Jontey meet DJ Orion bootleg remix)

“Define Perfection

Labyrinth // Laserpoint 18.04.2009 was the biggest club event organized in Finland since the legendary Labyrinth 2000. For the first time in 9 years the cable factory was sold out to it’s full capacity. The event turned out to be an eight-hour experience with over 20 of the finest high-calibre DJs and artists performing on two arenas filled with state-of-the-art lightshows, massive lasers and pyro effects.

We would like to thank all the people who made this event possible. We could not have achieved this without the help from everyone who worked for the event during the last 8 months and at the Cable Factory during the long Labyrinth // Laserpoint weekend. We would also like to thank all the artists and especially all of you 3500 people who made this event the Labyrinth // Laserpoint experience we always dreamed of. It doesn’t get better than this… Or maybe next year…”
