Tracklist: ONE – The Grand Opening

The opening night of ONE is happily behind, the only sad thing reminding me from the weekend is this nasty tiredness still following me even after a couple of well slept nights. Am I getting old or what?
Needless to say, I had lots of fun warming up Super8 & Tab who played a superb set with not-too-many techy tracks and more progressive sound what I’ve normally heard from them. The highlight must have been their vocal mash-up of Helsinki Scorchin’ which made the whole Tanssitalo go bonkers.

I was happy to see so many familiar faces there from the good ol’ days and loads of of new people I’ve only recently gotten to know. I really enjoyed chatting with all of you and having a possibility to share the good mood together. There were so many smiles and the original Tampere-fiilis around. Can’t wait for the next event to come.

Here’s the tracklist of the first three hours of the night. Filterheadz’s remix of Massive and a couple of remixes from Fletch kickstarted the party, but the highlight must have been Cocktail Bar from Joonas Hahmo. Joonas really gets the well deserved support from his home town :)

ONE – official season opening mix

Hello, One Family Member!

It’s been great past months seeing One taking its form and becoming one of the most interesting new club concepts in Finland. But for everything that is new, something defining won’t do any bad. This mix is not only the good definition of the quality sound you’ll hear at One, but also a small hint of the upcoming: Most of the artists you will hear on this mix, you will also witness live on stage at the upcoming One events.

Metaverse – Turku & Tampere

Metaverse hits the road this weekend again and arrives to Klubi, Turku and Hämeensilta, Tampere. I’m waiting for these events a lot, especially seeing the much hyped and little used Hämeensilta as a club venue.

The tour is running very well at the moment. We just got the news that Metaverse record has hit #16 on the official Finnish chart. That’s very good news and on my behalf I deliver the humblest Thank Yous for the support. It’s always awesome to see electronic music hitting the charts.

Madwave weekend

I’m heading today to Tampere to attend Madwave weekend. Madwave events will take place both in Tampere and Turku, Friday and Saturday, David West headlining both nights.

I’m very excited – playing at the same event with David in Oulu’s “Northern e’Motion ’07” was just amazing not to mention the last trip to Tampere’s “Romance” event some months ago. It’s been a while that I’ve been playing in Turku, but the last experiences at “LCS” and “Choon!” were simply great.

All in all, I think the combination of David West, Tampere and Turku is a rare enough to force all the progheads out to party. The lineup also includes very strong domestic spinners – Romance’s head honcho DJ Flight; Joonas Hahmo, one of the most interesting producers at the moment and the Sergei Shkuroff’s & D.N.A‘s full-on back2back.

After the Turku event – on Sunday morning – I’ll be travelling with David West back to Helsinki. David’s spinning at Pussy Club afterparty in Rose Garden with Mr.A.

Romance aftermath

Romance, Tampere - 5

Romance was awesome, big thanks to Flight & Link for making such an effort. It really seems Tampere is raising its head as a quality clubbing city after several year of just (semi-)successful one-offs. After Miau! quitted, Tampere has lacked a regular, well advertised and hi-quality club – until now.
Romance seemed to bring back tiny fraction of the original Tampere-fiilis and showed that organizing a club isn’t just printing flyers and booking a venue & deejays.
Roses, heart-shaped pieces of chocolate, cake, candles, “Afterdate” afterparty and this whole wordplay around “Commence your Romance” really worked. People were excited :)

Spinni10 photos

Spinni’s 10-year anniversary event was all you could expect from the Tampere-fiilis revival which has been going on for a while now already. The party was well organized and I’ve never seen I-Klubi so well decorated (except at MIR club in ’99 when FuFu organization boys used a hell of amount of black garbage bags to make the club totally black from the floor to the ceiling). Especially the smoke machine was well installed (see the photo below)

Two demons

The amount of audience really surprised me and the variety of clubbers was the greatest challenge of the night: Basically only few people knew the oldskool “hits” and the most were pretty confused of Aphex Twin’s Polynomial C as the set starter. But then again – those who had come to the event to hear the music from the past 10 years didn’t expect to hear the latest progressive house/trance tracks. The result was some sort of fusion of those two: old tracks combined to fresh releases. Check the tracklist here.

Nie wieder!

The afterparty was great, too. It was really refreshing to see a new underground venue in Tampere and jump into an afterparty where the music consisted mostly of techno – especially Hexe blew off the roof with his 3-deck set. Mad. Just like at Pinninkatu back in the day! ;)

Spinni upcoming…

This Friday & Saturday Spinni-organization’s 10th Anniversary Party takes over I-klubi, a legendary club venue nearby the centrum of Tampere. Many of my finest moments in the late 90’s techno scene are located there – and I guess many others could agree…

Who still remembers MIR, Taika, Dawn and many, many more…?

I have no idea how the organizers managed to get the authorization for their parties until 07 or 09 at that time – as far as I remember, alcohol was sold until 03:30 and then the party just kept on going. Quite impossible these days.

Spinni’s party will be more or less a look back to the past. I’ll be warming up Peak Twins’ Live set on Saturday and – I have to admit – I’ve been browsing through my records anxiously to get a bag-full of Tampere-anthems with me. I’ve been selecting tracks which were BIG 5-10 years ago – not too obvious classics, but records which made it all work at the time when Tampere-fiilis was at its peak.
