Next Friday and Saturday I’ll head to North of Finland to join my fellow DJ Kaasi. We’ll play two six hour sets, on Friday in Rovaniemi and Saturday in Kajaani. I’m happy to return to Rovaniemi, which still feels like a second home and excited to see Kajaani nightlife which has according to the rumours gotten very very good during the past year.
I’m not a big fan of back2back sets, but Kaasi must be one of the very few with whom it’s 100% happily freaky experience, time after time. Kaasi is a true professional with a great sense of music and an awesome attitude – it must be soon five years we’ve been touring like this together and it just gets better every time.
Another interesting b2b gig is coming next spring, with a musically very challenging and interesting artist, this time in South of Finland. Hoping to tell more about it soonish.
Nice guys at Finger Lickin’ sent me a copy of Lee Coombs’ awesome track Future Sound of Retro 2008 taken from the 10-Years of Finger Lickin’ album. With a permission from the guys to share the track forward, here’s a link to an mp3-file.

The second One event is happily behind. 350 people shared the great atmosphere and the Australian guest seemed to enjoy a lot, despite a bitter defeat against the Finnish national techno bowling team on Sunday afternoon ;)
Aki A. warmed up the floor nicely and got the hands in the air with the last uplifting tracks like OneWorld – Isla Blanca. Jaytech continued with his trademark sound, played a superb set and ended it with Hawk – Out Of Nowhere (Joonas Hahmo remix) and Jaytech & Matt Rowan – Tomorrow, which seemed to be the highlights for the crowd, too. I played the last set on a bit more trancey tip and the Tampere audience was once again truly amazing. Moguai – “U Know Y” (Starecase remix) was one of my own favourites, not least because of the fitting “You Are The Lucky ONEs” lyrics. See the full tracklist below.
Thumbs up for the One promoters Uzu & Flight for keeping the quality high and making fresh and bold decisions concerning the lineups. Actually (and partly sadly, too) I can’t remember when a progressive style foreign artist would have visited Tampere last time. Jaytech proved that you don’t need big-room style trance jocks in order to attract melodic electronic music loving crowds and that energetic and intensive music doesn’t go hand-in-hand with high BPMs.
One takes a break until December and returns with Orkidea and Solar Stone on 20.12.2008. See you!
P.S. Good news concerning the One Sunday track. The remixes are now ready and I received the final version from Toni from Syna trio only a couple of minutes before the start of my set at One. Below is the video of very first play of the track, judge it yourself. My apologies for the kiksusormi ;)

20 vuotta sitten musiikin teon aloittanut Hulkkonen muistelee omaa uraansa ja klubimusiikin nousua Suomessa 90-luvulla. Haastattelu on kaksiosainen. Hän kertoo haastattelussa muiden muassa tuotannostaan ja valottaa hieman myös tulevaisuuden kuvioitaan.

Today I challenge our nation to commit to producing 100 percent of our electricity from renewable energy and truly clean carbon-free sources within 10 years.

Kaikkien ronskeimmin tapahtuneesta uutisoi Aamulehti, jonka lööppi on karua katsottavaa. Alkuperäistä uutista ei lehden verkkosivuilta enää löydy, mutta verkkolehden otsikko “Metsäbileissä pöllysi muukin kuin multa” kertonee riittävästi.
Päivää myöhemmin järjestäjän ja Loimaan poliisin tiedottamisen tuloksena otsikot muuttuivat kautta linjan muotoon “Poliisi: Konemetsä ei ole vaarassa”. Alkuperäinen uutinen on poistettu monista uutispalveluista. Aamulehti muisti edelleen muistuttaa, että vaikkei festaria nyt saatu lopetettua, niin paloturvallisuudessa olisi petrattavaa.
Konemetsän promoottorit ovat tekemässä tutkintapyyntöä edellämainitusta lööpistä. Haastattelen huomenna puhelimitse tapahtuman toista pääjärjestäjää, Pete Gerkmania. Haastattelu kuullaan kokonaisuudessaan ensi Tiistain Tanssi-illassa YleX:llä 22.07 klo 21:00.
Etukäteen Konemetsän innovatiivisista ideoista puhuttiin erittäin positiiviseen sävyyn (Markkinointi ja mainonta: Konemetsä luottaa puskaradioon), mutta jälkikäteen esimerkiksi erittäin onnistunut jätehuolto on jäänyt muiden uutisten varjoon.
Alueen siisteydestä kertoo paljon tarina, jonka kuulin festivaalin aikana. Tämän mukaan telttaalueena käytetty pelto täytyy luovuttaa täysin roskattomana. Koska festarin jälkeen pellolla on hevosia, voi yksikin pullonkorkki tulla eläinten omistajalle (tai festarin järjestäjälle) kalliiksi. En halua tietää millaista on perata mutainen pelto pullonkorkeista, mutta positiivista on, että yleisö on kantanut esimerkillisesti kortensa ja korkkinsa kekoon.
